Pros: Worked right out of the box, connected to the network and found my shares right away. Threw p mkvs at it and never noticed a stutter and this was streaming over the network wired. Don't have any video in a format it's unable to play. Remote is cheesy and small but responsive. Cons: If you have a lot of items on your network folder, it'll take a while to scroll through.
Which there was a faster way to skip through movies. Cheap plastic feel of the box itself that gives you the impression it's not built to last but only time will tell. I did not expect something this cheap to be able to perform as well as it has. This makes watching movies and short videos on my hdtv so much easier as before I had to demux files in order to use Samsung's MediaPlay or lug my PC over to the TV a pain.
Would recommend. Even if I do buy a Zino or the Asus equivalent forgot the name right now , I'd still consider this a good buy and would use this on my basement TV since it plays video better than my old Dell PC does.
After installation, I formatted the hard drive with no problem and downloaded a movie ISO file. The Blue Light was on but the HD was not spinning. The next morning by accident I pressed the power button on the remote and in turned on.
You have to press the start button a second time for it to actually turn on, and when you turn it off, the blue light stays on. Anyways it played the movie just fine downloaded a several more no problems. Not a con along has you are aware of the problem. Sold by: Newegg Shipped by Newegg. Learn More. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked. Out of Stock. Add To Wish List. Are you an E-Blast Insider? This set-top box features several options for connecting to your television, including HDMI.
Best of all, when you connect to your computer, the unit functions just like an external drive, allowing you to manage the content easily.
For your convenience, you can also attach a USB drive and play media from it. Various file formats are supported including H. Full-function Remote Control With the full-function remote control, take command of all playback functions without leaving your comfortable couch. Operate with or without internal hard drive. John B. Verified Owner. Overall Review: displays video output in P. Does not upconvert.
Did you? Yes No. Robbin N. Streaming is pretty taxing for a network if anyone if going to be using it while your streaming I'll bet on plenty of packet loss. Cons: no netflix or web access which would be cool but who knows someone could whip that up in the future. The light stays on as long as it is plugged in, it would be nice if there was a power switch but it's not that big of a deal I love blue LED's.
Overall Review: Great product for the price. Pros: This device is easy to setup and offers many features that other similar media players do not. The optional internal hard drive, dual USB 2. Supports most common video and audio formats; only a few unsupported so far. Straight forward interface with very few unnecessary screens. Cons: Menu navigation is sluggish, as it appears to load the information for each file as it is selected. Finding the file you want can be time consuming, as I have yet to find a way to "jump" to a position in the sometimes lengthy alphabetical list.
Network connection and authentication information is reset when you completely power down the device, which requires you to setup the network again.
If it weren't for these minor annoyances, the device would definitely deserve the highest available rating. So, before you spend hours trying to figure out why the device can connect to your network but can't connect to your shares, try uninstalling that application first.
Also, be sure to flash the device with the latest available Firmware from the manufacturer's web site. Overall Review: Make sure to update the firmware prior use, trust me it works much better with latest firmware installed.
No more burning Hi-def home video onto bluray disc and that alone save me a lot of money. I just threw in 2TB hard drive on mine and it recognize the drive with no problem. One thing I wish it has is auto shut off.
Sometimes I just don't know if the box is off or not because the light will flash repeatedly and stays solid blue and it does the same thing when you turn it on so I have no clue if the system is on or off. I don't want my hard drive to keep running all day long. Would be nice if the color change to red when you shut it off. Other than that, I love it. Network connection is a breeze.
You currently have to hold the button in for 3 seconds to turn it complete off vs sleep mode. Pros: Excellent player, fast boot up time. The ability to add an internal hard drive of your choice, this is incredible. The rep was very personable, he never used language that lead me to believe that I was being sent standardized responses, and was friendly at all times.
I felt very well taken care of and very appreciated. The problem I was having was not related to the Media Player, it was due to the hard drive and flash drives I was using. Cons: These aren't really cons more opinions, as they could be considered Pro's: The unit is small and light. You will have to secure it to the surface where it will be installed Velcro or else it will end up dangling behind your TV. The remote is very small and is lost easily, it is powered by a small "coin" type battery and thus you must aim precisely due to the lack of power provided by the battery.
Long range remote control use is a bit difficult to master because of this. Overall Review: From my experience, a powered external hard drive should be used. If you have a library of digital media and are tired of watching them on a tiny monitor this is the device for you. Everything you need to hook up the unit is included in the box.
The device allows for firmware and codec updates via free downloadable software files. Pros: Easy to use, read my WD element drive just fine.
It's small, has no apparent noise audio or video. It has component and composite outputs, as well as HDMI.
Cons: AVI file reading is spotty. Unfortunately, this is not space efficient. My entire library was encoded this way. Not true HD format--it upscales. I've been using it in P and it seems to display movies well when it is not skipping. Even when automatic play is turned OFF, it still autoplays the first file in the folder.
This could cause problems if you're not quick with the remote and have kids. Just rename your files so that Bambi comes up first, I guess.
Pros: very neat little package for what it does. Cons: only that you MUST power off before disconnecting anytime you take off tv or external drive from it. But the instructions walk you thru it. Pros: First, Newegg had it to me the next day with regular shipping I am close to their shipping center.
